Mick McManus - A True Legend....
We would like to join the many other tributes to the late, great Mick McManus who passed away yesterday morning at the age of 93. McManus was one of the true greats of British wrestling. Topping the bill in every venue he ever appeared at, either in solo action or with long term tag team partner Steve Logan. But McManus was more than just a wrestler. He was a name that was always associated with wrestling. Perhaps more even than the likes of Giant Haystacks. For although those two were poles apart in stature their names are always on the lips of old time wrestling fans. Like him or hate him, McManus was one of THE all time stars of World of Sport. It has been moving to see some of the tributes to McManus from guys my age. Guys who were just entering wrestling when McManus was in the twilight or his career. McManus was a wrestler who never actually left the sport. Even after retiring he would make an appearance at places like Fairfield Halls, Croydon. He never knocked the sport - on the contrary, he was one wrestler who always defended the sport and all that it meant. There will never be another Mick McManus and wrestling is all the poorer for his passing.
