Wrestlers Who Could Wrestle.......
Here are a few more wrestlers who were (and probably even in old age still are) capable of hurting you in ways you've never dreamed of. The likes of Ray Steel, Johnny Kinkaid, Kung Fu, John Cortez, Barry Douglas, Johnny Kwango, Dave Bond, Keith Heyward, Pete Roberts, Terry Rudge and Mal Sanders were all a real handful in the ring. These guys could wrestle. They were also great crowd pleasers, but when they needed to, they could turn it on and show an audience, and their opponent what wrestling really was about. I've seen grown men almost crying BEFORE they went into a ring with people like Ray Steel and Pete Roberts. After a match they weren't capable of shedding a tear as they were in too much pain. I personally think the old ways were better than the modern approach. At least in days gone by wrestlers could wrestle. If a punters or 5 jumped a villain when they left a venue, you could be certain that the wrestler would have been able to put up a good fight. Now, well, many of today's "stars" could not wrestle their way out of a paper bag.... Some weeks ago I was speaking to Max Raeger a gritty northern wrestler who retired about 20 years ago. Max told me that if the modern crop of ballet dancers is all that wrestling has to offer, then he's glad to be retired...! Now Max was another man who could mix it with the best of them. I really do think the days when to get into the wrestling business you had to be able to wrestle should come back. How I hanker for the old days and ways!
